One-on-one Artist Mentorship Program

with Alyssa DeLaBruere

This personalized program is designed for amateur and developing artists, and those emerging into the professional art world who are looking for that next step of support beyond traditional classes and instruction. This artist mentor/mentee relationship will help you form essential foundational skills, develop a sustainable artist practice, and strengthen your own voice and vision. Uniquely catering to your specific needs and goals, my nurturing guidance and friendship will assist you in navigating the art world, networking, and refining your artistic aspirations and trajectory.  This mentorship is specifically focused on you and where you want to go with your art!

How does a Mentorship Program Work?

Though weekly one-on-one sessions (either in-person at one of my two teaching studios, remote via Zoom, or a combination hybrid approach) we will design a program to guide you in a process = progress approach, which emphasizes the importance of gaining skills and confidence through the process of making, experimentation, and broadening your understanding of technique, methodology, and design.

In order to build a flourishing practice, I will not only help you dig into your own work, but will also expand your knowledge of art and artists relevant to your area of interest. These regularly scheduled and structured sessions, will build your confidence and artistic identity through accountability, focus, momentum, and consistent feedback.

This is not a class, this is a dedicated partnership centered on collaborative conversation and critique which will culminate in diverse portfolio of finished works.

I love my mentorship with Alyssa. I’ve worked with her for a year and a half and, during that time, I feel as if I’ve grown exponentially as an artist. She is always well-prepared for our sessions, having reviewed the images I send her and often sharing examples from other artists’ work.  In addition to being a practicing artist, Alyssa genuinely cares about teaching. She is a generous and thoughtful mentor, and I hope to continue working with her for a long time.

I have taken many classes in painting, but the mentorship model has so many advantages. With Alyssa, I have worked in watercolors, soft pastels, acrylic, mixed media - acrylic with paper, and oil. She deeply understands color theory, depth and composition in landscape painting, and how to have fun while you’re learning. I need the weekly deadlines, and our confidence- building and inspirational conversations keep me painting. She has always been very flexible with me on time, but we manage to meet almost once a week. Having a mentor who knows your work is a great way to grow as an artist.

    — Scott, Vermont

  • Alyssa has been my art mentor for many years both in her studio and on trips abroad. One of her gifts as a teacher is to find something wonderful in what I have just created; this encourages me and inspires confidence to continue. I hear her gentle instructions and voice as I paint; even though I have moved away from Northern Vermont. "Decide what will be the star of the painting... When you use a color once, use it again in other places (to unify the design)" Just a couple bits of her wisdom. Alyssa clearly enjoys teaching art, and that joy melts into how I feel as I reach for my paint brush.

    — Penny, New Hampshire

  • “Alyssa is such a gift to our community and all those with the opportunity to work with her. When I first saw her work, thirty five years ago, I knew that I was looking at something very special. Fast forward to now, when I know that we are so fortunate to experience her work, and to have the benefit of her mentorship. It is a privilege to be with her in her studio, as a student or a patron.”

    — Ginette, Vermont
