CHRONICLES OF THE LANDSCAPE
Share in Alyssa’s adventures, insights, and inspirations as she chronicles her journey as a traveling landscape artist seeking the beauty and solitude of wild spaces.
“The wild and rural landscape is my escape from the business of life. Even more than cities and technological advancement, the landscape represents a critical reflection of our past, present, and future. The land provides the record of our world, what our world can be, and who we will become within it.”
“I consider myself a translator of natural spaces. I place myself between the landscape and the viewer, capturing a small piece of the land’s existence. Sometimes as simple as a single horizon line separating land, sea, or sky. I record it within my own layers of color, line, and texture.”
The Celtic Triskele
Land - Sea - Sky
The Triskele is one of the oldest Celtic symbols finding its origins as a small twelve inch carving in the Stone Age passage tomb of New Grange, Ireland, dating back over 5000 years. The triple spiral has evolved to be a common Celtic motif with many interpretations of the life cycle: birth, life, death. Others see it as representative of the spirit realms of celestial, physical, and spiritual. For me this ancient emblem has become my personal symbol from the interconnectedness of the elements of nature: LAND, SEA, & SKY at horizon lines and coastlines. This personal signature made from an 19th century letterpress stamp purchased on the streets of London will be seen in the corner of original monotype prints, paintings, and mixed media works.
